Lagos Blood Transfusion Service Strengthens Push for International Accreditation

The Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS) has intensified efforts to achieve international accreditation by promoting teamwork, leadership and quality improvement among its workforce.

At a two-day Workforce Engagement Forum, management and staff reviewed operational processes, identified gaps and developed measurable performance indicators aimed at strengthening safe and reliable blood transfusion services.

Executive Secretary of LSBTS, Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya, said accreditation must be a shared responsibility across all departments, stressing that sustained collaboration and accountability are key to maintaining high standards.

Facilitators noted that aligning donor recruitment, blood processing and screening units under recognised standards would enhance service delivery and boost public confidence.

The service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every unit of blood issued for transfusion meets established safety and quality benchmarks.
