More than 250 bags of foreign parboiled rice have been transferred to the Nigeria Customs Service by the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Badagry following anti-smuggling operations along Nigeria’s waterways.
The Commanding Officer of the Base, B O Omotayo, said the seizure formed part of efforts to support civil authorities in combating smuggling and other cross-border economic crimes.
According to him, in line with naval operational procedures, over 250 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice were officially handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service Western Marine Command for further necessary action.
He noted that the operation aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, to build a modern and professional naval force committed to safeguarding maritime interests and strengthening national security through collaboration with other security agencies.
The Base added that sustained patrols in Badagry waterways are aimed at protecting Nigeria’s maritime borders, curbing economic sabotage, and enhancing inter-agency cooperation to ensure national safety.
