A prominent Badagry-born politician, Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, popularly known as SMA Gold and a Lagos governorship aspirant for the 2027 general election, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the reforms embedded in the 2026 Electoral Act, describing the legislation as a bold reinforcement of democratic values and electoral integrity.
Speaking in an interview with correspondent Pentho Francis, Ajose noted that the strength of any democracy lies in the genuine popularity of its leaders rather than manipulation or political imposition.
He emphasized that the Electoral Act reforms are aimed at deepening transparency, promoting internal party democracy, and strengthening the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
According to him, the Act sends a clear message that leadership must be earned through service and public acceptance.
He urged political actors across party lines to adopt issue-based campaigns and prioritize grassroots engagement over divisive politics.
Ajose also called on youths and first-time voters to remain actively involved in the democratic process, stressing that sustained civic participation is essential for consolidating democratic gains.
Stakeholders say the 2026 Electoral Act is expected to significantly shape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections by reinforcing accountability and strengthening public trust in democratic institutions.
