CAN Dedicates Lagos Secretariat as Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Abiru Rally Support for Church Unity

The Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, alongside Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde, on Saturday joined the Christian community for the dedication of the newly completed secretariat of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter, located on Jobi Fele Way, Alausa, Ikeja.

The complex, christened the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Christian Association of Nigeria Lagos State Secretariat, features several structures named after notable personalities. The main office complex is designated the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Office Block, while the CAN Chairman’s office is named after Senator Tokunbo Abiru. The hall and event centre is named Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre, with other offices equally named after prominent Christian leaders in recognition of their service to the association.

Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu expressed delight at the successful completion of the secretariat, noting that the project ended nearly three decades of dispute over the land and would serve as a rallying point for unity within the Church.

Represented by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the First Lady commended the Bishop Stephen Adegbite-led executive for its perseverance and commitment. She stated that the commissioning “marks the end of a long journey and the beginning of a new chapter,” adding that the realisation of the secretariat reflects purposeful leadership, resilience, and vision translated into reality.

Also speaking, Senator Abiru described the project as historic and urged Christians to embrace inclusiveness and uphold moral guidance in public service. He noted that the period of Ramadan and Lent underscores the need for reflection, unity, and godly leadership.

The National President of CAN, Daniel Okoh, praised the Lagos chapter for its determination in delivering the project, while CAN Patroness, Dr Oluwaseye Shomoye, encouraged Christians to continue providing spiritual, material, and financial support to advance the work of the Church.

In his remarks, Bishop Adegbite urged members to take collective ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance as a symbol of unity and administrative strength.

Meanwhile, the Pioneer Chairman of ECWA Lagos Central District Church Council, Rev. Dr Ezekiel Omidina, reminded Christians that God remains present even in periods of economic and social uncertainty. He spoke during the 2026 Inter-Denominational Divine Service (IDDS) held at The Apostolic Church Nigeria LAWNA Territorial Headquarters, Olorunda, Ketu, Lagos, where he preached on the theme “Immanuel: God With Us” drawn from Matthew 1:23.

Special prayers were offered for peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria, Lagos State, and the Christian community.

Dignitaries at the service included the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba represented by Justice Modupe Nicol-Clay, and the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, among other religious and government leaders.
