The President of the National Air Traffic Communicators Association of Nigeria, NACAN, Alhaji Rabiu Sani, gave the charge at the graduation ceremony of the Aeronautical Mobile Service Course Eight at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.
Alhaji Sani commended the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Engineer Umar Farouk, for what he described as unprecedented support for staff development, noting that the agency has fully sponsored several local training programmes and settled all tuition fees.
He disclosed that fifteen communications officers were also sponsored to Germany earlier this year for specialised Aeronautical Message Handling System training, while work has begun on deploying the technology across Nigeria.
According to him, modern communication radio equipment has already been installed in Abuja and Kano, with other stations to receive theirs in phases.
He added that the agency will begin linking Lagos and Kano before extending the network to other airports and neighbouring Flight Information Regions across West and Central Africa.
Describing aeronautical communicators as critical to safe, efficient and reliable air navigation services, Alhaji Sani congratulated the graduating officers and urged them to apply the knowledge, discipline and professional values acquired during their training in the service of the nation’s aviation industry.
