‎AAU Student Dies in Crash During Sign Out Celebration, FRSC Warns Against Dangerous Jubilation Rides

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a student of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, who died on Monday while celebrating the completion of his final examinations.

‎The yet-to-be-identified student was part of a jubilant motorcade of fresh graduates driving along the Ekpoma–Auchi Expressway after their signing-out activities. The crash occurred near Ujoelen Junction.

‎Eyewitnesses said the group ignored basic safety rules as they sped along the highway.

The deceased reportedly attempted to overtake a moving truck but collided with a stationary vehicle.

‎The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State, Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident.

He said one student died while five others suffered varying degrees of injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

‎The FRSC has repeatedly warned students across the country about the dangers associated with reckless celebration rides and convoy displays, a trend seen each year during signing-out ceremonies.

0Similar incidents have been recorded in states such as Ogun, Anambra and Oyo, where graduation motorcades have ended in fatalities or serious injuries.

‎Monday’s crash has once again prompted fresh calls for universities, student unions and families to discourage high-speed processions on public roads.

‎Authorities say investigations into the Ekpoma accident are ongoing.
