ACPN Launches Pharmacy Rx Month to Build Public Trust Nationwide

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has declared October as Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month, a national observance designed to promote public confidence, professionalism, and awareness of the essential role of community pharmacists in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The declaration was made by the National Chairman of the Association, Pharm. Ezeh Ambrose Igwekamma, during a press conference held at the ACPN headquarters.

Pharm. Ezeh described the initiative as a significant milestone for the pharmacy profession and an opportunity to reaffirm the central place of community pharmacies in safeguarding public health and ensuring access to genuine and safe medicines.

According to him, the Rx emblem is globally recognized as a symbol of trust, professionalism, and healing, representing the integrity of the pharmacy profession and the assurance of quality healthcare delivery.

He noted that dedicating October to the Rx emblem goes beyond mere symbolism, emphasizing that community pharmacies are sanctuaries of safety, care, and expert service.

“By dedicating this month to the emblem, we are showcasing our community pharmacy premises as unique sanctuaries where patients and the public can confidently access genuine medicines, professional pharmaceutical care, and comprehensive healthcare services,” he said.

Pharm. Ezeh stressed that community pharmacies across Nigeria are not just dispensing outlets but vital neighborhood health hubs that provide preventive care, patient counseling, and support for chronic disease management.

He explained that in an era where counterfeit and substandard medicines continue to endanger lives, the Rx emblem stands as a beacon of authenticity, guiding Nigerians toward trusted sources of quality healthcare.

He further stated that the declaration aims to deepen public awareness about the unique position of community pharmacists within the healthcare chain and to reinforce the bond between pharmacists and the communities they serve.

He pointed out that community pharmacies often serve as the first point of contact for millions of Nigerians seeking health solutions and play an indispensable role in promoting preventive healthcare at the grassroots level.

Pharm. Ezeh therefore urged Nigerians to recognize and utilize the expertise of pharmacists within their communities, stressing that community pharmacies remain the most accessible and reliable health facilities across the nation. “Let us use this month to tell our story boldly, that community pharmacy remains the most accessible healthcare facility,” he stated.

In his closing remarks, the ACPN National Chairman called on the Federal Government, health institutions, development partners, and the general public to continue to support community pharmacists in their mission to deliver quality healthcare, protect lives, and build healthier communities.

He said the association remains committed to empowering community pharmacists and upholding professional standards that promote national health security and sustainable development.

“Together, let us make the Rx emblem shine as a trusted guide to safe medicines, professional care, and healthier living,” he concluded.

The ACPN reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with government and stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system and ensure that community pharmacy practice continues to serve as a dependable pillar of national health and wellbeing.
