Aggrieved APC Members Stage Peaceful Protest in Lagos

Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State have staged a protest at the entrance of the Lagos House of Assembly.

Their primary demand was for a more equitable distribution of political appointments at the local government level, coupled with strong calls for the immediate resignation of the state party chairman, Pastor Cornelius. The protesters, who identified themselves as Concerned and Loyal APC Members, accused the party leadership of nepotism, alleging that the Justice Forum faction had a disproportionate influence over appointments.

The protesters claimed that the imbalance is causing widespread dissatisfaction among the party’s rank and file. The appeal, which was addressed to the state governor and copied to the speaker, was read by the spokesperson for the protest, Segun Faleye. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State assured the protesters that the selection of cabinet members for the twenty Local Government Councils and thirty-seven Local Council Development Areas would adhere to established rules, internal party guidelines, and proposals made by local party leadership following appropriate consultations.

In a statement, APC spokesperson Mogaji Seye Oladejo emphasised that the party at the state level merely plays an advisory role and denied any allegations of imposing nominations on local governments. Mr. Oladejo encouraged interested party members to approach their local leadership, who possess the authority to make nominations.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to constructive dialogue in order to review concerns and disputes, ensuring fair outcomes consistent with party values.

He urged the protesters to channel their concerns through official party channels to address dissent, evaluate claims, and promote unity.
