The foremost traditional ruler of Badagry Kingdom in Lagos State, De-Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry Kingdom, has joined his ancestors.
The revered monarch passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at the age of 89, following a brief illness.
Before ascending the throne on April 23, 1977, the late Akran, then known as Prince Babatunde Akran, was an accomplished journalist who rose to an exalted editorial position in his professional career.
During his reign, he played a prominent role in traditional governance, serving as Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
He also served as Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, contributing significantly to education and national development.
A report by Radio Nigeria’s resident correspondent in Badagry confirmed that traditional rites of passage have commenced, in line with the customs of the ancient kingdom.
