Alma Outreach lunches low cost Clinic…Targets less privileged

A health facility called, “Iyewo clinic” meant to promote the well-being of those in the underserved  areas and facilitate community development, was launched during the 2024 free medical programme in Lagos.

The non governmental organisation, called Amal Outreach, which is committed to screening diseases such as,  prostate cancer, cervical cancer, diabetes, hepatitis B and C, Dental care, Breast cancer, Hypertension, HIV and Vision care every month in different parts of the state is in progress.

Dropping the hint in Apongbon area of Lagos island, the founder of the Organisation, Dr. Folake Kofo-Idowu said, ” The programme is  for the benefit of market men and women and the less privileged, and most importantly, those who are battling with one health challenge or the other, adding that ” it will  save them the stress of going to queue at the hospitals, and to  remove cost of transportation and then provide primary health care to them “.

” Iyewo Clinic ” offers quality healthcare that goes beyond treating present ailments, pointing out that, ” the services are designed to promote long-term wellness and provide a mix of in-clinic, home care, and telemedicine to cater for patients medical needs “. Folake

While noting the significance of early diagnosis in effectively managing various medical ailment, Dr Kofo-Idowu noted ” the Organisation is dedicated to creating sustainable solutions to improve access to quality healthcare and create local employment opportunities for the youths who will in turn, contribute to the economic growth of the communities they serve “.

A Professor of Public Health Service, Lagos State College of Medicine LASUCOM, Professor Ololade Bright, said, ” the initiative has been a dream of a young lady who had an experience of a family member who passed on due to a preventable disease like hypertension, diabetics that are chronic but can be managed for a long time, if the patients adhere to care, preventive strategies and proper measures”.

According to Professor Bright, ” the initiative is a great development in the community because it provides  people the opportunity to screen and know who is at risk as they get older because of their lifestyles and eating habits”.

” None communicable diseases and other life threatening health challenges can easily be treated by having a clinic within a market place such as Alma Outreach has done, is an excellent idea “.Bright

She urged the people of the community to appreciate and buy into the outreach so the idea will not die, ” encouraging other youths to emulate such initiative “.

A Retired Social Gynecologist, Dr. Shade Disu commended the founder Dr. Folake Kofo-Idowu for ” coming up with such initiative describing it as wonderful and advised other well meaning Nigerians to emulate the initiative to support their communities”.

Dr Shade expressed confidence that the clinic is a place where people could run to with a small amount of money to access  basic health care needs.

” Cost of things are very high, try to be as close to nature as possible and remember people should eat right, exercise constantly and go for check up including early diagnosis whenever the need arises “.
