ANLCA rejects 20% reduction offer by handling companies

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents ANLCA has rejected the 20% reduction of the 100% review of cargo handling charges by the two aviation handling companies in the aviation industry, Skyway Aviation Handling Company SAHCo and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company NAHCo.

Last week, the handling companies had increased their tariff to 100% which led to the agents refusing to operate in the companies warehouses.

At a meeting held today to resolve the issues between the agents and the handling companies, the companies reduced the charges by 20 percent but the agents insisted on 50 percent reduction.

When contacted, the vice chairman of ANCLA Mr Davies Ben Chukwunenye said the agents rejected the 80 percent offer, adding that, they will only agree on 50 percent as 100% increment is not acceptable world wide.

The agents say, they have lost over ₦6bn since the commencement of strike.

Our correspondent reports that, it is a week today that customs clearing agents embarked on strike over the introduction of 100 percent cargo tariff.

The two companies have justified the increment in the handling rates based on high cost of operations and acquisition of equipment.
