Anthony Joshua Injured in Ogun Road Crash, Two Feared Dead

Heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been involved in a serious road traffic accident in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria.

The incident occurred earlier today along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Makun, one of the country’s busiest highways, according to security and road safety authorities.

Reports indicate that the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua collided with a stationary truck, reportedly while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre at high speed.

The boxer, aged 36, was seated in the rear of the vehicle at the time of the crash.Joshua was said to be conscious at the scene and was immediately evacuated to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Tragically, two other occupants of the vehicle lost their lives in the accident. Their remains have been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash commence.

Eyewitness accounts and videos circulating on social media show bystanders assisting Joshua out of the severely damaged vehicle.

Though visibly shaken, he was seen alive and responsive.The Ogun State Police Command, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that a full investigation is underway, with preliminary findings suggesting speeding and wrongful overtaking as possible causes of the crash.

The accident comes just days after Joshua’s high-profile knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami and during his visit to Nigeria, a country of deep personal and ancestral significance to him, as part of the festive season.

Authorities have extended condolences to the families of the deceased, while fans and stakeholders in the global boxing community continue to monitor updates on Joshua’s condition and recovery.
