The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State on Saturday conducted its presidential primary election across the state, with party members voting to elect the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2027 general election.
The exercise, held across the state’s 245 wards, was largely peaceful and orderly in the three senatorial districts, as party members queued behind their preferred candidates in line with the party’s direct primary voting process.
At Ward L2, Ireti Primary School, Mekunwen, in the Ikoyi-Obalende area of Eti-Osa Local Government Area, President Bola Tinubu participated in the exercise alongside other party members.
Speaking after the voting exercise, the Electoral Officer for Ward L2, Mrs. Adukwu Martha, disclosed that President Tinubu secured 4,996 votes from accredited party members, while his challenger, Mr. Stanley Osifo, recorded no vote.
The exercise was monitored by the Lagos State Chairman of the APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who served as Chief Returning Officer; as well as members of the party’s electoral committee.
Secretary of the Local Organising Committee, Mr. Adekunle Olayinka, commended party members for their peaceful conduct throughout the exercise, noting that the process was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and Nigeria’s electoral laws.
Also speaking, Pastor Ojelabi praised party members for their impressive turnout and orderly conduct during the primary election. He noted that the party’s earlier primaries for legislative positions were also successful and expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections.
He added that the APC remained committed to policies and programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing economic growth, and creating a more conducive environment for businesses and residents in Lagos State.
