ASUU Gives FG 14 Days to Meet Seven Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its seven-point demands or risk another round of strike action.

The decision followed a meeting of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) held on Sunday at the University of Abuja.

National President of ASUU, Prof. Chris Piwuna, who signed the strike notice released to journalists in Abuja yesterday, said the union is frustrated by government’s neglect of the university system and failure to honour agreements.

He warned that if the government fails to act within 14 days, ASUU may first embark on a two-week warning strike before proceeding to an indefinite industrial action.

The seven demands include:Renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement Sustainable funding and revitalisation of universities, End to victimisation of members at LASU, Prince Abubakar Audu University, and FUTO Payment of outstanding 25–35 percent salary arrears, Settlement of promotion arrears spanning over four years, Remittance of third-party deductions.

It would be recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had set up a committee, led by Permanent Secretary Abel Enitan, to review ASUU’s proposal, but no decision has been made public.

Meanwhile, in Ilorin, stakeholders at the 2025 TETFund North-Central Townhall meeting assessed the Fund’s performance since its establishment.

They applauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for sustaining TETFund’s impact, with the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kamoru Kadiri, disclosing that his school alone had benefited from over N4 billion in grants for research, infrastructure, and capacity building.
