The newly elected President, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, Comrade John Ogbe has promised a bold new focus on workers’ welfare.
Comrade Ogbe, who won by a commanding 62 to 7 votes over Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA’s Dada Olowole, told delegates that his administration marks “the awakening and rebirth of ATSSSAN.”
In an emotional acceptance speech, he thanked the Minister of Aviation, Barrister Festus Keyamo, agency heads, and FAAN management for their support, crediting them for what he described as a peaceful and historic transition.
Speaking directly to workers, the ATSSSAN President pledged to make their welfare the centrepiece of his leadership, declaring that the union is returning “to its true owners, the branches and the members.”
He promised an inclusive administration and a renewed era of constructive negotiations with government and private-sector employers to secure better working conditions across the aviation industry.
Comrade also called for unity, saying there were no winners or losers in the election only a stronger ATSSSAN family moving forward.
The election, held overnight at the union’s national congress in Jos, saw 69 delegates vote across several key positions.
Other winners include Olarenwaju Isaac as National Financial Secretary, Zuberu Baba as National Treasurer, and Gabriel Shofolahan as Second Deputy President.
Eight positions were filled unopposed, including Victor Osemeilu as Second National Vice President and Agbayekhai Irene as the new National Women Leader.
With his mandate secured, comrade Ogbe says he is ready to lead a union that listens, acts, and puts workers first.
