Board Launches Ethical Artificial Intelligence Storytelling Competition for Youths

Are you a youth between ages 13 and 20, with passion for storytelling that can be produced into film?

A fresh opportunity has been provided for the next generation of creative talents this long holidays, with the launch of the Lagos Statewide Youth Storytelling Challenge 2025, coming up between eighteenth and twenty- fifth of October this year.

This is a first of its kind initiative by the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) and Plotweaver, the technical partner, to promote ethical Artificial Intelligence, AI story telling.

Addressing newsmen in Magodo, Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs Adebukola Agbanimoja, explained that the Lagos Statewide Youth Storytelling Challenge 2025, is designed to ignite a passion for storytelling among youths, providing them with a platform to explore their imagination and share their unique narratives through AI. According to Mrs Agbanimoja, the initiative aims to position Lagos as Africa’s premier youth storytelling capital, while preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage and building a thriving creative economy.

On his part, the Project Lead, Lagos Youth Storytelling Competition, Mr Oteme Oyo, said that Plot weaver is the technical story checker to evaluate the stories submitted to ensure that they are culturally relevant and commercially viable. Mr Oyo noted that the competition is an opportunity to showcase Artificial Intelligence as a positive technology.

According to Mr Ojo Olumuyiwa Johnson, Chief Partnerships Officer at Plotweaver, “the competition is a transformative platform that will not only preserve our cultural heritage but also build the creative leaders who will take Nigerian stories from Eko to the world. “

Contributing member of the Board of Advisers of Plotweaver, Mr Noah Ibrahim as stating that the website containing details of the guidelines and prizes for the Lagos Youth Storytelling Competition will soon be released to the public.
