Boxing: Usyk Floors Dubois, Declares 38 the New 28

Wembley Stadium turned into a boxing cathedral on Saturday night as Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk sent British boxer Daniel Dubois back to the drawing board— with a thunderous fifth-round knockout that crowned him the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

‎Usyk, 38, clearly didn’t get the memo that age is supposed to slow you down. Instead, he wrote his own note—on Dubois’ jaw—with a left hook that dropped the 26-year-old like a bag of British potatoes.

The punch landed just one minute and 52 seconds into the fifth round, sealing Usyk’s 24th straight professional win and adding the IBF belt to his already bulging collection of WBA, WBC, and WBO titles.

‎Dubois, who many believed had grown from a ‘boxing baby’ into a ‘man’, was sent back to boxing kindergarten by the Ukrainian technician.

It was a rematch of sorts—recall their last encounter in Poland where Dubois aimed too low (literally) and was disqualified for a body shot that might’ve belonged in a wrestling ring.

‎But there was no confusion this time. From round one, Usyk danced, jabbed, and dictated the tempo like a conductor with boxing gloves.

By round five, he had composed a symphony of punches that left Dubois looking like he accidentally wandered into a masterclass.

‎And the crowd? Oh, the 90,000 roaring fans at Wembley didn’t know whether to wave flags or wave goodbye.

Even the English football team hasn’t seen that kind of domination in the stadium lately.

‎Speaking in the ring with the joy of a man who just discovered age is optional, Usyk said:
‎“Thirty-eight is young, my friend. It’s only the beginning!”

‎Then, like every married man who’s just had a long work trip, he added:
‎“I just want to go home to my wife and kids. No next. I need rest. Maybe two or three months of just being a papa.”

‎Asked if Tyson Fury might be next on the menu, Usyk grinned. He’s already beaten the Gypsy King twice, so he’s clearly in no rush. For now, it’s nap time—and well deserved.

‎One thing is clear: in the heavyweight jungle, Usyk isn’t just the lion—he’s the zookeeper too.
