CAN Condemns Attack on Kwara Church, Warns of Rising Insecurity

The national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the recent attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, describing it as another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN said the incident—during which some worshippers were killed and several others abducted during a prayer service—was heartbreaking and deeply troubling.

According to Archbishop Okoh, the attack in Eruku adds to a disturbing pattern of repeated assaults on Christian communities in vulnerable regions, a situation the association has consistently raised before Nigerian authorities and the international community.

He noted that while official responses often play down fears of targeted violence, the frequency and intensity of such attacks continue to provoke legitimate concern both nationally and globally.

CAN called on security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the abducted worshippers and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The statement also urged religious, traditional, and community leaders to help maintain calm within the community and to prevent any form of reprisal that could further escalate tensions.
