CAN Lagos Fixes February 21 for 2026 Inter-Denominational Divine Service, Unveils Secretariat

The Lagos State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced that its 2026 Inter-Denominational Divine Service (IDDS) will hold on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territorial Headquarters, Olorunda, Ketu, Lagos.

Addressing journalists at a press conference at its new Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja on Friday, the Lagos CAN Chairman, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, said the theme of the 2026 service is drawn from Matthew 1:23 — “Immanuel: God With Us.”

“The declaration Immanuel is both a promise and an assurance,” he said. “It reminds us that in seasons of economic strain, social pressure, governance challenges and personal uncertainty, God remains present with His people.”

He described the annual service as “more than an annual ceremony,” noting that it represents “a spiritual convergence of believers across denominations coming together in one accord to seek God’s face for Lagos State and Nigeria.”

Bishop Adegbite disclosed that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has accepted to attend the event as Special Guest.

“His presence underscores the importance of constructive engagement and partnership between faith-based institutions and government in building a just, peaceful and prosperous society,” he stated.

The CAN Chairman also announced the completion of a new Lagos CAN Secretariat, which will be officially opened on the morning of the Divine Service.

“The building of this Secretariat was a promise made by the Lagos CAN leadership under my humble stewardship. To the glory of God, that promise has been fulfilled,” he said, describing the facility as “a symbol of unity, administrative strength, accountability and renewed vision for the Christian community in Lagos State.”

On the state of the nation, Bishop Adegbite acknowledged prevailing economic challenges under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but urged patience and prayers.

“We recognise that Nigeria continues to face significant challenges, including economic pressures and structural adjustments that have affected many citizens,” he said. “However, we also note that these problems are being deliberately and strategically tackled through various economic policies and interventions aimed at stabilising the economy and repositioning the nation for long-term growth.”

He added that the 2026 IDDS would serve as a platform for intercession and thanksgiving.

“We shall pray for Lagos State, for Mr Governor and his team, for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government, and for all institutions responsible for the well-being of our people,” he said, calling on citizens to embrace peace, unity and responsible citizenship.

Bishop Adegbite urged Christians across Lagos State to attend in large numbers, expressing confidence that the message of ‘Immanuel – God With Us’ would inspire hope and renewed commitment to building a just and peaceful society.
