A Nigerian caregiver based in Canada, Oghenemaro Ejerua, has been arrested by the Toronto Police Service over allegations of assault on vulnerable adults under his care.
Police say the 38-year-old was employed at a group home located around Sibley Avenue and Dentonia Park Avenue in Toronto between November 1 and November 30, 2025.
During that period, he is alleged to have carried out multiple assaults on residents of the facility.
According to a police statement, officers responded to a report of assault in the area on December 10, 2025, at about 9 a.m.
Investigations later led to Ejerua being declared wanted in December before he was eventually tracked down and arrested.
Authorities say the suspect has been charged with seven counts of assault and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Meanwhile, this development comes days after another Nigerian, 28-year-old Babatunde Afuwape, was arrested in Toronto in connection with the killing of a 20-year-old university student, Shivank Avasthi.
Police said Afuwape has been charged with murder over the incident, which occurred on December 23, 2025.
Canadian authorities say investigations into both cases are ongoing.
