Capacity building key to engineering regulation’s success – Oguntala

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Margaret Oguntala has praised the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) for its recent Regional Engineering Stakeholders Summit.

The summit, focused on restructuring, reforms, and the inauguration of the Lagos Regional Steering Committee (LRSC), was lauded by the NSE President for fostering vital stakeholder engagement.

In a statement, the NSE President emphasized the importance of such initiatives in reshaping perceptions, building stronger relationships, and promoting sustainable development within the engineering sector.

She also noted the crucial role of the newly inaugurated LRSC, stating that its work will be essential in upholding professional integrity, ensuring adherence to standards, and cultivating a culture of excellence.

The Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) were also commended for their proactive efforts in convening stakeholders to address professionalism within the built environment.

Reiterating the importance of engineering regulation, the NSE President stressed its foundational role in aligning engineering practices with global best practices and contributing to national development.

She also underscored the need for continuous capacity building as fundamental to the ongoing success of engineering regulation in Nigeria.

With the inauguration of the LRSC, Mrs Oguntala expressed confidence in its ability to strengthen regulatory effectiveness and advance engineering practice nationwide.

She called upon all stakeholders to engage, collaborate, and work together to build a stronger and more resilient engineering sector capable of driving national progress.

The NSE President further pledged that the NSE, alongside other engineering associations including the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), the Nigerian Society of Engineering Technicians (NISET), and the Nigerian Association of Engineering Craftsmen (NAEC), will actively participate in driving COREN’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives.
