Catholic Church Composes Prayer for Victims of Owo Massacre

The Catholic Diocese of Ondo has composed a prayer for the souls of all those who were killed inside Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo, on Pentecost Sunday.

The Bishop of the diocese, the Most Reverend Jude Arogundade has also directed that Novena Masses be offered for the repose of their souls from today to fifteen of the month.

Bishop Arogundade described the killing as disheartening and embarrassing.

In a statement issued today, the Director, Social Communication of the Diocese, the Reverend Father Augustine Ikwu said that thirty bodies of the victims have been deposited in the morgue while many others who sustained various degrees of injuries are still being treated.

He said that the Church is planning a befitting burial for all the victims and have started reaching out to individual families of the deceased.

The statement advises faithful who have taken charge of the bodies of their loved ones to notify the Church.

It appealed to government to ensure that the perpetrators are fished out and brought to Justice quickly and thanked groups and individuals who have reached out to the Church over the massacre.

The statement also appealed to people not to spread fake news that could lead to religious and political misunderstanding on the account of the killings.
