Chinese Grandmother Nabbed With 31kg Synthetic Cannabis at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese grandmother, Ting Hung Kiong, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for allegedly attempting to smuggle 31 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, into Nigeria from Thailand through Dubai aboard an Emirates flight.

The agency says investigations revealed the suspect, who is based in Malaysia, was handed the illicit drugs in Thailand for delivery in Nigeria.

The anti-narcotics agency also recorded several major seizures across the country, including over 1.8 million tablets of Tapentadol worth more than two billion naira intercepted at the Lagos airport after arriving from India.

In Enugu, a passenger arriving from Sierra Leone was caught after excreting cocaine, while another suspect heading to Italy from Abuja was arrested with thousands of opioid pills concealed in his luggage.

NDLEA operatives further intercepted banned substances hidden in parcels bound for the Netherlands, United States and United Kingdom, as raids in Edo, Kano, Lagos and Ekiti states led to the recovery of large quantities of skunk and other illicit drugs, with multiple suspects taken into custody as the agency intensifies its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking.
