Residents of Igbooye, located in the Eredo area of Lagos State, have appealed to relevant authorities and the electricity distribution company serving the area to urgently restore power supply after months of persistent blackout.
The community lamented that despite repeated complaints, no lasting solution has been provided, leaving residents to grapple with severe disruptions to economic activities, social life, and overall community development.
According to the residents, the prolonged outage has worsened living conditions for vulnerable groups, particularly children and the elderly, who face health and welfare challenges without stable electricity.
They also noted that the recurring lack of power has continued to dampen festive seasons and key socio-cultural activities in Igbooye Kingdom, reducing community participation and discouraging visitors.
The appeal is coming ahead of the forthcoming first coronation anniversary of the Orijeru of Igbooye, Oba TPL Abdul Rasaq Akanni Musa, as well as the installation of Baales and chiefs scheduled for next week.
Residents said the events are expected to attract dignitaries, guests from across Nigeria, and members of the Igbooye diaspora, stressing that a stable power supply would be crucial to the success of the celebrations and the community’s public image.
Describing the coronation anniversary as a landmark moment in the history of Igbooye Kingdom, the residents expressed hope that timely intervention by the appropriate authorities would ensure a conducive atmosphere for a befitting and memorable celebration.
