The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is deeply saddened to announce the loss of five of its gallant operatives in September 2025, following fatal knockdown incidents caused by reckless motorists while they were carrying out official duties.
In response, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed that all motorists responsible for these tragedies be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, stressing that this is necessary to serve as a deterrent to future violations.
The incidents occurred across several formations:
Ekiti Sector Command – 6th September 2025
Ogun Sector Command – 8th September 2025
Taraba Sector Command – 15th September 2025
Jos By-Pass Unit Command – 19th September 2025
Obollo Afor Unit Command – 24th September 2025
“These deaths are not mere statistics,” the Corps Marshal stated.
“They represent lives, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners cut short while safeguarding Nigerian roads.”
Expressing grave concern, he lamented the increasing risks faced by FRSC personnel, who now confront not only speeding vehicles but also incidents of kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults.
He stressed that the Corps would no longer tolerate reckless acts that endanger its staff, warning that offenders will face strict sanctions and legal consequences.
The Corps Marshal further charged operatives nationwide to remain vigilant and prioritize their personal safety, emphasizing: “You must be safe and alive to save others.”
To this end, FRSC is intensifying engagements with relevant authorities to enhance the protection of its personnel and installations.
This initiative, he explained, is a preventive safeguard not an act of aggression aimed at ensuring officers can perform their duties without fear of attack.
On behalf of the management and staff, the Corps Marshal commiserates with the families of the deceased officers and salutes their courage and sacrifice.
He urged Nigerians to honour their memory by obeying traffic laws, respecting FRSC operatives, and supporting the Corps in its mandate to end avoidable deaths on the nation’s highways.
Reaffirming his stance, the Corps Marshal firmly cautioned: “Disregard for traffic laws and the safety of FRSC personnel will attract serious sanctions and legal consequences going forward.”
