Court of Appeal Schedules 260 Appeals for Special Golden Jubilee Sitting in Lagos

The Court of Appeal has scheduled 260 appeals for hearing during a special court sitting in Lagos organised to mark the Golden Jubilee of the appellate court.

The special session, which is presided over by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem, is aimed at reducing the backlog of cases at the Lagos Division, Nigeria’s foremost commercial and litigation hub.

16 Panels, 40 Justices Deployed Nationwide

For the special exercise, 16 panels comprising 40 Justices drawn from various divisions of the Court of Appeal across the country have been constituted.

The panels will sit throughout the week at the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, as well as at the National Industrial Court Complex in Lagos.

Justice Dongban-Mensem noted that all the appeals listed for the special sitting are ripe for hearing, and urged lawyers and litigants to ensure that all court processes are properly filed and complete to avoid unnecessary delays.

She reaffirmed the Court of Appeal’s commitment to speedy and effective justice delivery, particularly in clearing long-standing cases in high-volume divisions such as Lagos.
