Court Strikes Out Ibom Air In-Flight Assault Case Against Passenger

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has discharged Miss Comfort Emmason of allegations of unruly behaviour and assaulting flight crew members aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.

Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the five-count charge on Wednesday after police applied to withdraw the case, citing “new developments” and “fresh facts” uncovered during further investigation.

Miss Emmason, arraigned on Monday following a complaint by Ibom Air, had faced charges including assault, wilful damage to property, and disorderly conduct under FAAN Bye-Laws and Lagos State criminal statutes.

Prosecutor Woman Inspector Oluwabunmi Adeitan told the court the withdrawal was directed by the Lagos Airport Police Commissioner and confirmed it was unconditional.

Defence counsel Adams Atakpa and Mrs. Adefunke Adewale did not oppose the application.

In discharging her, Magistrate Salami cautioned Emmason to exercise better judgment in future, warning, “You might not be this fortunate in another matter.”

The withdrawn charges alleged she slapped crew member Juliana Edward, hit another with slippers, damaged an aircraft divider curtain valued at $2,500, and destroyed a wig worth ₦110,000.
