Customs Hands Over Three Containers of Expired Drugs to NAFDAC

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Command, has intensified its crackdown on illicit pharmaceuticals with the handover of three containers of expired drugs to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The formal handover took place in Lagos, where the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, disclosed the development.

Comptroller Onyeka reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding public health and national security, stressing that the fight against illegal drugs remains a top priority.

Addressing stakeholders at the event, he explained that the seizure was part of the command’s sustained anti-smuggling operations, describing the protection of Nigerians from harmful substances as a shared responsibility.

He commended NAFDAC for its continued cooperation, noting that the strong synergy between both agencies has been instrumental in preventing fake, substandard, and expired drugs from reaching the public.

The Customs boss assured that collaboration with NAFDAC would be strengthened to ensure dangerous pharmaceuticals are intercepted before gaining access to the Nigerian market.
