Eguma Praises Opponents as Rivers United Seize Pole Position in CAF Confederation Cup

Nigeria champions Rivers United have fired to the top of Group B of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-1 mauling of visiting Motema Pemba of Congo Democratic Republic today.

Ghanain import Paul Acquah completed his hat trick in the 93rd minute of the entertaining encounter played at the Godswill Akpabio International Studio, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Today’s effort take Acquah to the top of the goalscorers’ chart on 4 goals.

Assessing his team’s performance, Rivers United’s gaffer Stanley Eguma exulted his boys for adhering to instructions:

“Our opponents played well today but our tactical plans gave us maximum points today.”

The Pride of Rivers as United are known now sit atop the standings on 9points, 2 above second placed Ivorian side Asec Mimosas.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter final of the competition.

Next up for Rivers United is a 5th round Group B clash with Diables Noire of Congo Brazzaville on 19 March 2023.
