Equity in State Economic Development: Governor Yahya Bello Advocates Fiscal Federalism.

The Kogi State Governor, Yahya Bello, has advised the federal government to adopt the practice of fiscal federalism as a way to boost the Nation’s economy.

Governor Yahya Bello, who gave the advise at the annual seminar for journalists in Abuja, noted that if  Government accepted fiscal federalism, most of Nigeria’s problems would be solved.

Governor Bello emphasised that if fiscal federalism is practised, it would change the narrative of depending on oil revenue to govern the Nation

According to the Governor, If government  accepts the principle of fiscal federalism, the states will control what they have and pay certain percentages to the centre which will strengthen political stability in the country.

Responding to questions, Governor Bello revealed that his administration has been able to increase the state revenue from two hundred and fifty million naira monthly to one point five billion naira, through tax return on mineral resources.

The  Governor urged other state Governors to look towards their mineral resources to compliment federal allocations in order to boost their internally generated revenue, if well harnessed.
