Esther, Oshoala fire Falcons to Friendly Victory

Goals by Esther Okoronkwo and Asisat Oshoala fired Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, The Super Falcons, to a 2-1 win over Haiti in a friendly played today in Turkey.

Okoronkwo struck a superb freekick from the edge of the penalty area to send Nigeria 1nil up in the 40th minute while Barcelona Femeni super striker Oshoala made it two for the World cup bound team on 58 minutes.

Agba Baller as Oshoala is also known as had not played for the nine-time African champions since the Women Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco nine months ago.

The current Spanish league top scorer was a regular threat to the Haitians who eventually halved the deficit in the second half to see out the game on a slim margin of loss.

Up next for Nigeria are World Cup co-hosts New Zealand on Tuesday 11 April 2023 at the Mardan Sports Complex also in Antalya, Turkey.

The Falcons are using the friendlies to prepare for the upcoming FIFA women’s world cup to be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia in June.
