Ex-Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, is dead

Nigerian goalkeeping legend, Peter Rufai, is dead.

Dodomayana, as he is fondly called, died on Thursday morning, July 3, 2025, at the age of 61 after a prolonged illness.

Rufai, celebrated as one of Nigeria’s finest goalkeepers, made a remarkable impact on the sport, earning 65 caps for the national team throughout his distinguished career.

He played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s historic debut at the 1994 World Cup and was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ triumphant journey to winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) the same year.

His legacy continues to inspire future generations of footballers, solidifying his status as a true icon of Nigerian football.
