The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has urged airport authorities and stakeholders to embrace bold leadership, rapid modernization and strategic renewal to make Nigeria’s airports globally competitive.
Opening a four-day FAAN Board and Stakeholders Retreat in Abuja, with the theme: “Future-Proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernisation and Strategic Renewal”, he said the meeting was designed to reposition the Authority in line with evolving global aviation trends and strengthen its ability to deliver efficient, resilient and passenger-focused airport services.
According to him, the emphasis on future-proofing FAAN underscores the need to anticipate change, adopt innovation and remain relevant in an increasingly sophisticated aviation environment.
Dr. Ganduje noted that discussions at the retreat would help sharpen infrastructure development, improve operational efficiency, strengthen institutional capacity and enhance coordination across the airport ecosystem, describing such collaboration as essential to building a modern and competitive airport system.
The board chairman acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is driving reforms in infrastructure, safety and digital transformation, while also commending the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, for his decisive leadership.
He praised the improved synergy between the FAAN Board and management under Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, saying it has contributed to smoother operations nationwide.
The FAAN Board Chairman said stakeholders have a collective responsibility to steer FAAN towards financial sustainability, innovation and global relevance.
He expressed optimism that the retreat would shape a clear roadmap for the Authority’s next growth phase, urging participants to engage frankly and produce practical solutions that will consolidate recent gains and unlock new opportunities for Nigeria’s aviation sector.
