The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has made a strategic decision to relocate its corporate headquarters back to Lagos from Abuja.
The agency’s management acknowledged that the initial move to Abuja was ill-advised, given the absence of a suitable facility to accommodate all staff.
In an official statement by its spokesperson Mrs. Obiageli Orah, it was revealed that the directive to return to the original base in Lagos came from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and this decision was the result of extensive consultations with stakeholders, including unions associated with FAAN.
The statement highlighted the imprudence of abandoning the established FAAN building in Lagos, opting instead to expend scarce resources on renting office space in Abuja with millions of Naira of public money.
It also notes that over sixty percent of FAAN’s activities are concentrated in Lagos due to the substantial passenger volume at the Lagos airports.
Those affected by the relocation to Abuja had since returned to Lagos and the Authority has accepted its liability to pay Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) to those impacted by the move.
Mrs. Orah further disclosed that the Minister has outlined plans to engage concessionaires in constructing suitable offices for FAAN in both Lagos and Abuja.
Until these plans materialize, the Authority will manage its existing building in Lagos, which can currently accommodate all its directors and senior officials.
