A state-of-art mobile Surveillance Vehicle has been acquired by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, to enhance security at the Lagos International Airport.
The Managing Director, FAAN, Mr.Kabir Muhammed during the launch of the surveillance vehicle said, the mobile van is fitted with the latest technology to capture any object or persons within and around the restricted areas of the airports especially at the airside.

The acquisition of the new facility is coming on the heels of the recent carting away of amoured cables and multi-million naira airfield lightning at the airport.
Thus far, some persons have been arrested and currently cooling off their heels in police custody while investigation is still ongoing.
According to the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr. Kabir Mohammed, with this new facility, the airport is fully secured in addition to more operational vehicles procured to monitor the airside.
“For now Lagos is our immediate concern so we are putting one here as a start, remember it is not just the vehicle that serves the purpose, we have some radar on 18R and then 18L itself, we have radar across and it would be feeding information to this and you will be able to monitor it from the tower. Despite all these we are also enhancing the CCTV cameras, the surveillance also, that is the physical surveillance, we are improving the number of staff”.
The General Manager, South West Airports and Airport Manager, Murtala Mohammed International airport, Lagos, Mr. Sunday Ayodele assured that better results would come with the new mobile surveillance vehicle.
He speaks on the capacity of the surveillance equipment.
“The essence is to detect especially the airside so that if at any point any intruder definitely it will send a signal to us there to our control room and once we are able to sense that, immediately because we already our security men at the airside, immediately the signal is sent to them, they will be able to go straight to where the incident is taking place, that’s the essence”.

The mobile surveillance vehicle vehicle in Slovenia is fitted with
static and the roving cameras long range that can detect long distance up to about 5km and also detect a person and put an ID to the person, which means visual recognition of the person.
The Project Manager, Mr. Aminu Tijani, speaks more on the features of the mobile surveillance facility.
“It has an inverter, it has battery, it has three alternate power, you can charge it through the alternative when the vehicle is running, using generator provided inside the vehicle, you can also power it via through a power supply”.
Highlight of the launch was a practical demonstration of the surveillance equipment witnessed by all present.
