FAAN Resolves Dispute Over Boeing 737-NG Full Flight Fire Simulator

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has successfully mediated the dispute regarding the Boeing 737-NG full flight fire simulator installed at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in 2019.

Following a high-level meeting in Lagos, attended by NCAT’s top management led by Rector Mr. Joseph Imalighwe and the leadership of the Nigerian Aviation Fire and Safety Association (NAFSA), an agreement was reached.

It was decided that FAAN and NCAT will share both the revenue and liabilities associated with the simulator.

As part of the agreement, FAAN will leverage its network to attract foreign trainees to the facility, thereby generating revenue for both FAAN and NCAT.

The Multi-Purpose Aircraft Fire Simulator, located on the NCAT campus in Zaria, provides a range of practical firefighting and rescue scenarios.

Acquired in 2019 for approximately N5.2 billion by the previous administration, the simulator is expected to save Nigeria billions in foreign currency previously spent on training abroad.

Mrs. Kuku expressed satisfaction with the resolution, stating, “We are happy to have finally come to this agreement between sister organizations in the interest of the safety of our passengers and improving the competence of our brave firefighters”.

“This will improve our image globally and attract revenue that both organizations need. As I have always said, safety will always take priority in everything we do at FAAN, and this is a demonstration of that.”
