The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a significant operational change, launching “Operation Go Cashless” to phase out all cash transactions at its primary revenue points.
In a strategic partnership with financial technology firm Paystack, the new policy will commence on September 29, 2025, beginning with the nation’s two busiest airports namely, Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Under the new system, all payments for services including airport Access Gates, Car Parks, and access to FAAN’s VIP and Protocol Lounges will transition exclusively to cashless and contactless methods.
This initiative is designed to provide travelers and airport users with a fast, secure, and seamless payment experience.
In a statement, FAAN explained that the move responds to the growing demand for safe, modern, and transparent payment systems, ensuring Nigeria’s airports remain aligned with global digital trends.
By reducing the reliance on physical currency, the authority aims to enhance operational efficiency, improve revenue assurance, and deliver a superior customer experience across its facilities.
To ensure a smooth transition, FAAN has deployed trained brand ambassadors at access gates and throughout the terminals in Lagos and Abuja.
These representatives will be available to guide users, assist with onboarding to the new system, provide demonstrations, and answer any questions.
For ease of use, passengers can obtain a dedicated “FAAN Go Cashless Card” at any airport access gate in the initial locations.
Upon collection, users are encouraged to immediately activate and fund their cards online by visiting the official portal at www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to continuous improvement, confirming that this is the first phase of a nationwide rollout.
The cashless policy is scheduled to be expanded to other airports across the country in subsequent phases.
