FAAN unveils new strategies to boost revenue, enhance airport experience

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a comprehensive plan to drive growth, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall airport experience for passengers and business partners.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Director, Commercial and Business Development, Miss Adebola Agunbiade and announced at a recent stakeholders engagement forum in Lagos, aims to standardize processes, block revenue leakages, and maximize revenue, particularly from non-aeronautical sources.

To achieve these objectives, FAAN has established three key pillars: standardization and process re-engineering, blocking revenue leakages, and maximizing revenue.

The authority has categorized businesses into four bands (A, B, C, and D) to streamline operations, ensure uniformity, and facilitate effective management.

FAAN has also introduced a retail mix to understand the types of businesses operating at each airport and their revenue contributions.

The analysis reveals that small businesses, classified as Band D, dominate airport spaces, while Band A businesses, which generate the most revenue, are underrepresented.

This presents an opportunity for growth and optimization.

She said, the authority is implementing various innovations, including a digital platform for applications and payments, automation of processes, and a cashless payment system.

The e-gates and boarding gates FAAN says, will improve facilitation, while the retail platform will provide transparency and visibility for land use and retail assets.

To ensure compliance, the agency will strengthen monitoring and enforcement, with a focus on aesthetics, signage, and adherence to agreements.

The authority is also reviewing its tariff structure to ensure competitiveness and alignment with market realities.

In addition, Miss Agunbiade stated that, FAAN is restructuring its car hire programme, introducing a new category for operators with eco-friendly vehicles, and revising lease agreements to prevent underutilization of allocated land.

The authority has set ambitious revenue targets, aiming to increase its revenue scorecard performance.

To achieve this, FAAN is investing in staff welfare and capacity development, recognizing the importance of its workforce in delivering quality services.

According to the DCBD, FAAN is committed to engaging with its business partners and stakeholders through regular interactions, ensuring a collaborative approach to drive growth and improvement.

The authority encourages business partners to support its initiatives, including the use of electronic payment machines and the upcoming cashless payment system.

Miss Agunbiade believes that, by working together, FAAN and its partners can create a seamless, efficient, and profitable airport experience, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
