FAAN Urges Public Compliance to Safeguard MMIA Amidst Rising Incursions and Security Threats

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN has appealed to the public to refrain from illegal incursions through the perimeter fence at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.

In a statement, FAAN’s Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Mrs Obiageli Orah, emphasized that such actions not only jeopardize the security system but may also lead to prosecution or potential harm, including being shot at.

This appeal is coming on the heels of an increased rate of incursions and recent theft of runway lighting, posing significant threats to the safety and security of the airport.

“These incidents not only compromise the airport’s security but also impose a substantial financial burden on the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), necessitating the replacement of damaged or stolen critical facilities”, says Mrs. Orah.

She said, the dismantling of unauthorized structures around airports is imminent and urges individuals without legitimate business at the airport to stay away, with the promise of arrest and prosecution for anyone found loitering or touting within the airport vicinity.

According to the FAAN’s spokesperson, the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) has intensified operations, resulting in numerous recent arrests.

To enhance the overall airport experience, users are advised to utilize designated parking areas and avoid parking at drop-off zones to prevent towing.

FAAN reiterates its commitment to providing quality service, and pleads cooperation from the public to ensure the safety and security of the airport environment.
