Residents of Chanchanji in Takum Local Government Area and Tor Damisa in Donga council area of Taraba State have begun fleeing their homes amid growing rumours of impending militia attacks.
Many residents were seen along major roads carrying their belongings while searching for transport to safer locations as anxiety spreads across the communities.
The worsening security fears have also disrupted education in the affected areas.
Principal of Regina Packs School in Chanchanji, Mr. Simon Avioko, and the administrator of Holy Copy Schools in Takum, Rev. Fr. Samuel Ogah, said their schools have been overwhelmed by displaced persons from neighbouring communities.
According to them, several families have withdrawn their children from school due to insecurity and the loss of livelihoods, worsening the already fragile situation in the area.
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, the Dean of Chanchanji Deanery, Rev. Fr. Edward Barau, said residents have been living in constant fear following intelligence reports suggesting possible attacks.
Community leaders urged Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to intensify efforts to restore peace, although they commended his recent visit to affected communities alongside Hyacinth Alia, the governor of neighbouring Benue State.
However, the Nigeria Police Force in Taraba State dismissed a viral video alleging planned terrorist attacks in Takum and Donga as false and fabricated.
Police spokesperson ASP Victor Mshelizah said the video was designed to cause panic, while former senator Babafemi Ojudu, who recently visited Nwonyo Lake in Ibi, described the state as peaceful during his trip.
