FG Cancels Independence Parade, Keeps Other Anniversary Events

The Federal Government has cancelled the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The decision was announced in a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Segun Imohiosen, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

Although no reason was given for the cancellation, Mr. Imohiosen stressed that it would not diminish the significance of the anniversary.

He confirmed that all other programmes lined up for the celebration, themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” would go ahead as planned.

The statement urged Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda.

Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark the anniversary.
