The distribution of Interactive Smart Boards for public schools across Nigeria has begun in Lagos.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa set the distribution exercise in motion at the official Launch of the digitalization of Public Schools Initiative and Flag-off of the distribution of Interactive Smart Boards To Public Schools in Nigeria, held at Queens College, Lagos.
He said that a total of One Thousand Interactive Smart Boards were ready for distribution in public schools across the country.
He explained that the shift from chalkboard to smart boards marks a transition from traditional, one-directional learning by repetition teaching methods to dynamic, interactive, and technology -enabled active learning.
He said that the new Smart Boards would enable an interactive classroom setting where students would learn by engaging, exploring and creating ideas.
The Minister of Education stressed that the smart boards would allow teachers to integrate multimedia, digital textbooks and real-time interaction into their lessons.
He however , emphasized that learners would learn by touching, exploring and engaging with their teachers and not by listening alone
Dr. Alausa however, noted that the Interactive Smart Boards initiative was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education, which is aimed at transforming Nigeria from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy as the new initiative was meant to harness digital technology in classrooms to make teaching and learning more engaging, interactive, and effective.
In a speech, the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba said for Nigeria to remain competitive and prepare the young ones for the realities of the 21st century, the nation needed to embrace technology-enabled education as a central pillar of its development strategy.
The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board Drama Group added colour to the event.
