FG Declares Tuesday, July 15 Public Holiday to Honour Late President Buhari

In continuation of the seven-day national mourning period declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government has announced Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following the approval of President Tinubu.

The Minister described the holiday as a mark of respect for the former President’s dedicated service, democratic legacy, and contributions to national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said.

“This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld.”

The Minister urged citizens to use the day to honour the late President by promoting peace, patriotism, and national unity, in alignment with his vision for a prosperous and cohesive Nigeria.

As previously directed, national flags are to be flown at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period beginning Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The Federal Government extended its deepest condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, praying for the peaceful repose of the former President’s soul.
