The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to modernising Nigeria’s Armed Forces through strategic international partnerships, local capacity development and technology transfer aimed at strengthening national security architecture.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, made this known during a working visit to Monaco alongside senior ministry officials as part of ongoing engagements on the proposed Multi-domain Hybrid Intelligence Shield project for the Ministry of Defence.
According to the Minister, the government is collaborating with MARSS UK Ltd and its Nigerian partner, MPS Mikopowers Ltd, to deploy advanced command, control, surveillance and integrated security technologies to tackle emerging security threats.
Musa said the initiative would help address terrorism, border insecurity, illegal mining, piracy and threats posed by unmanned aerial systems, while also boosting indigenous operational capacity through sustainable defence industrial cooperation.
During the visit, the Nigerian delegation observed demonstrations of radar detection systems, artificial intelligence-enabled threat identification, anti-drone technologies and integrated national command-and-control solutions, including proposals for regional command centres and mobile response units.
The Defence Minister noted that the engagements form part of Nigeria’s broader defence diplomacy efforts aimed at improving operational effectiveness, strengthening inter-agency collaboration and enhancing national resilience in an evolving global security environment.
