FG Warns Fire Service Staff Against Job Racketeering Practices

The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to personnel of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) over alleged job racketeering in the ongoing recruitment exercise.

Controller-General of the Service (CG), Olumode Adeyemi, sounded the note of caution during a working tour of the Abuja Metropolitan Fire Station and Wuse Fire Station in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday.

Adeyemi stressed that the integrity and reputation of the Fire Service must be upheld, warning that any staff involved in fraudulent job dealings would be dismissed immediately.

“There will be no sacred cows. Any staff or personnel caught in job racketeering will be shown the way out,” he declared.

The CG said the directive was part of a broader effort to restore public confidence in the agency, describing the fight against employment fraud as a non-negotiable stance of his leadership.

Adeyemi emphasized that those implicated in extortion or illegal dealings during recruitment would face decisive sanctions, as the service cannot afford to accommodate corrupt practices.

He noted that all staff must act as good ambassadors of the Fire Service, as integrity is central to the agency’s operations and national service delivery.

Beyond warnings, Adeyemi also assured personnel of improved welfare, disclosing that allowances have now been consolidated into the salary structure to enhance staff motivation.

The CG urged officers to focus on professionalism, discipline, and service delivery, assuring that the government would continue to support the Fire Service in its mandate to protect lives and property.
