Fire Guts Great Nigeria Insurance House on Martin’s Street, Lagos Island

Fire has gutted the 22-storey building of Great Nigeria Insurance on Martins Street on Lagos Island.

Permanent Secretary LASEMA Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident in a statement made available to Radio One.

According to Dr Oke-Osanyintolu, the Shark Response team of LASEMA arrived at the scene and said fire started from one of the apartments on the 4th floor and quickly gained momentum to other parts of the floor, currently escalated upwards to the 6th floor with rapid upward momentum within the 22 storey building.

The PS LASEMA said the number of casualties cannot be ascertained as fire combat is currently ongoing.

He noted that the combined efforts of emergency responders are already on ground towards ensuring the inferno is put under control.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu hinted that a total of 6 fire trucks and a skylight are presently on ground to ensure the fire is put under control.

First responders at the scene include LASEMA response team, LASG Fire & Rescue, Federal fire, LNSC, Nigeria Police, Red Cross and LRU.Report says paramedics are the responders currently present at the incident scene while LRU FIRE have already been activated.

Recovery Operation is ongoing.
