Firefighters are currently battling a fire outbreak at the popular Arena Market in Oshodi, Lagos, following a blaze that erupted in a section of the busy commercial hub.
The market, usually a beehive of activity, was still bustling when the fire broke out in an area close to the market’s fire station, near the exit gate.
The incident reportedly started shortly after 6:00 p.m., at a time when the market was preparing to close to shoppers.
However, many traders were still conducting business with customers who had already gained access to the premises.
As of the time of filing this report, security agents were struggling to control movement in and around the market, directing vehicles, traders and shoppers to vacate the area.
Access into the market has been restricted, with only firefighters allowed entry to contain the blaze.
Efforts are ongoing to prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the market, while the extent of damage is yet to be fully determined.
