The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has sensitized its stakeholders and tax payers in Lagos on withholding Value Added Tax, VAT and the newly introduced VAT filing module.
Speaking at the occasion, the FIRS State Coordinator Lagos Island, Mrs Oyeniyi Fadeke, explained that the Vat module is FIRS new filing system where everything will be transparent between the tax payers and the service.
Mrs Fadeke said the FIRS Management recently appointed money deposit banks and major telecommunications agents who are saddled with the responsibility of deducting and remitting VAT.
“The aim is generate more revenue for federal government and ease of doing business, we want the compliance of companies to be high.
This sensitization will not be one off, it will be a regular and continuous as the need arise.
The economic importance is to generate more revenue for government. The essence of this is embrace more technology and block every loopholes.” She said.
In an Address of Welcome, Deputy Director Tax/ Tax Controller Large Tax Office Non- Oil Financial. Mrs Clara Obasi, pointed out that the engagement forum was to sensitize and update taxpayers on the tax system especially Withholding VAT and the new VAT module so as to ensure efficient and affective delivery on their mandate.
Mrs Obasi noted that FIRS was progressively driving automation processes, adding that it has always recognized the place of quality service delivery to its esteemed taxpayers and other stakeholders.
“We believe that it is critical to educate you on these recently introduced WHVAT AND VAT MODULE and the ways and means to support in a more efficient and effective way towards the discharge of your civic responsibility. Our fuuture outlook is a fully automated, professionally branded tax administration system that focuses on customer satisfaction while maintaining high ethical standards.” She said.
Some participants at the event described it as a welcomed development.
The event was well attended by tax payers and other stakeholders.
