All flights into the Akanu Ibiam international airport, Enugu, Enugu state has been suspended due to temporary closure for emergency runway repairs.

All flights to the airport are to be diverted to nearby airports.

According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, the repairs became necessary due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.

Spokeswoman for FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah in a statement, says, the emergency repairs will be conducted on that portion of the runway from April 22nd to May 6th, 2025.

This is in compliance with the Nigeria civil aviation regulations and therefore, the FAAN has closed the runway during this period.

As part of FAAN’s commitment to passenger safety and the modernisation of airport facilities, the runway Mrs. Orah said will not be open for landings or takeoffs during the rehabilitation period.

The agency appealed to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time and apologized for the late and unexpected notice regarding this closure.
