Founders’ Day: LASUED Unions Laud VC, Present Letters of Credence

Academic unions at the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) have presented letters of credence to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bilkis Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, in commendation of her leadership during the institution’s 2026 Fourth Founders’ Day celebration.

The unions said the recognition was informed by visible improvements in infrastructure, teaching and learning facilities, staff welfare, and overall institutional stability since Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye assumed office on March 1, 2022.

LASUED’s Founders’ Day, themed “Celebrating Our Roots, Preserving Our Culture and Identity,” was held at the Oto/Ijanikin Main Campus in Ojo, Lagos State.

In a letter signed by its Chairman, Mr. Akeusola Omojole, the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) described the Founders’ Day as a landmark event that reflects the vision, resilience, and commitment behind the establishment of the university.

NAAT noted that LASUED has remained steadfast in its mandate of excellence in teacher education and human capacity development, attributing recent institutional progress to the Vice-Chancellor’s proactive and visionary leadership.

The union said Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye’s integrity, purposeful leadership, and commitment to institutional growth have repositioned LASUED for academic excellence, sustainable development, and global relevance.

“Under her stewardship, the university has recorded remarkable achievements in academic innovation, institutional stability, and community impact,” the association stated.

NAAT further prayed for sustained progress and unity within the institution, while wishing the Vice-Chancellor continued good health, wisdom, and impactful service to education and humanity.

Similarly, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), in a letter presented by its Chairman, Mr. Ogunlari Olumuyiwa, said LASUED has experienced unprecedented growth across academic and administrative sectors under the current administration.

SSANU highlighted key milestones including the accreditation of academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), increased student enrolment, improved management–union relations, and the maintenance of a stable academic calendar as major achievements of the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure.
